pinch your people

privacy policy

last updated: August 2026

this explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what we never do with it.

who we are

Pinch ("we," "us") is a social app that lets you send small, honest relationship check-ins to friends, siblings, partners, and acquaintances. This policy covers the Pinch website and app, and applies to anyone who uses either.

what we collect

We collect only what the product actually needs to work — nothing extra for its own sake:

  • Account info: your email, the username and display name you choose.
  • Birthdate — used only to calculate your zodiac sign. It's stored separately and privately; only your zodiac sign is ever shown, never the date itself.
  • Personality quiz answers — used to generate your personality type, shown on your profile if you choose to take it.
  • Pinch activity — your answers to relationship check-ins, any optional message you attach, and the resulting outcome ("Letter of Revelation"). Your exact answers and raw score are never shown to anyone else, including the person you pinched — only the qualitative outcome and your message, if you left one.
  • Bio and profile choices — anything you write in your bio, plus which title and avatar you choose to display.
  • Feedback — anything you submit through our feedback form, plus an email if you choose to leave one.
  • Waitlist email — if you join the app waitlist, just your email, nothing else.

what we never collect or do

  • We don't run ads, and we don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
  • We don't track you across other apps or websites.
  • We don't show your real-time location, and we never ask for it.
  • We don't let anyone see your raw score or your exact answers — not other users, not us, browsing casually.

who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to actually run Pinch — they process data on our behalf, under their own security commitments, and don't get to use your data for their own purposes:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider. This is where your account and activity data lives.
  • Google Cloud — hosts our backend services and website.
  • Razorpay — if you ever make a payment through Pinch (e.g. a future donation or premium feature), your payment details are handled directly by Razorpay; we never see or store your card or bank information ourselves.

We don't share your data with anyone else, and we don't sell it — full stop.

how we protect it

Every request to our database is checked against row-level security rules, meaning the database itself — not just our app's interface — enforces who can see what. Sensitive fields like your birthdate and raw score are additionally walled off so they can't be read even by a technically sophisticated request. All traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS).

your choices

You can edit or remove your bio, change your display name, and choose what's shown on your profile at any time from your profile page. To request a copy of your data, or to have your account and data deleted, contact us through the contact page — we'll act on it promptly.

age requirement

Pinch is intended for people aged 13 and older. When you sign up, we ask you to confirm you meet this requirement — we're being upfront that this is based on what you tell us, not an independent verification process. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll remove it and delete the associated data.

If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account, or you'd like to review or have their information removed, contact us through the contact page — we'll act on it promptly, no questions asked.

changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Pinch after a change means you accept the update.
