meet the mascot
every app needs a face. ours happens to be a penguin who lives somewhere between the arctic and outer space.
cosmo showed up early in a whiteboard sketch meant to last one meeting. he didn't leave. by the time we were arguing over button colors, he'd already claimed the loading screens, the empty states, and most of our slack emoji. we stopped fighting it and just gave him a name.
penguins travel in huddles. they're famously bad at flying and famously good at finding their way back to the exact same mate, year after year, in a landscape that looks identical for a thousand miles. that's basically the whole app in one animal — showing up for the people you'd recognize anywhere, even when everything else looks the same.
cosmo narrates your push notifications (in a voice that's more "excited best friend" than "corporate system alert"), greets you when someone invites you in through a referral link, and shows up as your guide through deep reveal — the one who sits next to every answer and tells you, plainly, how far apart you and someone else really are.
we liked the idea that checking in on someone doesn't need a reason or an algorithm behind it — it can just happen, like it fell out of the sky. cosmo's the one who delivers it. no analytics dashboard, no "engagement strategy." just a penguin with a walking stick, occasionally showing up to say someone's thinking about you.
as pinch grows, cosmo grows with it — new poses, new moments, probably a bad pun or two we haven't written yet. if you ever get a notification that makes you smile before you've even opened the app, that's him doing his job.
